William Scott, President and CEO of Lifeguard Aeromed Inc., started Lifeguard Air Ambulance in 1981 in an effort to combine his love for both aviation and medicine. Growing up in an aviation family, flying was his first love. In an effort to provide care for his passengers, he became a paramedic, and worked on an emergency ambulance for over twenty years. Lifeguard began operations after completing a nine-month research project of the desired needs of a five-state region. During the project, Lifeguard utilized a Piper Cherokee Six and staffed the airplane with paramedics that were willing to donate their time and services. The original office consisted of a mobile home in which Mr. Scott lived in. Once operations began, Lifeguard operated a Piper Lance, a high performance single-engine aircraft. Staffing was achieved through the friends and co-workers of the people Mr. Scott had worked as an emergency paramedic.
